My Work
Below are photos of the people who make my work a wonderful place to be.  I appreciate their hard work, kindness, and professionalism.  Without the support of these individuals (whom I also consider my friends), none of the achievements made in this professional arena would have been possible.  Thanks, everyone!

College of Engineering Admissions & Advising Center (l-r) Portia, me, Monica, Veena, Susan, and Christina.Although I oversee the College of Engineering Admissions & Advising Center, the work is done by many, specifically, my student Peer Advisors. Our Center is responsible for the admissions/advising and outreach/recruitment of all prospective and newly-admitted students.  I'm grateful for the help I receive from my student Peer Advisors.
Engineering Outreach (l-r) Susan, Christina, Rinkal, Natalie, Thariza, and Thu.Middle school students enjoying the event. Women Engineers @ the Beach
After serving in the Peace Corps (and having been inspired by the experience of poverty and gender inequity), I developed an outreach program to encourage young women in the K-12 schools and city colleges to explore and consider careers in engineering.  The event has grown considerably and now accommodates an attendance of 300-400 individuals each semester.  It is entirely funded by Engineering industry and professional organizations and provides opportunity for empowerment for both female participants/volunteers.
Engineering Recruitment (l-r) Mariska, me, Jezer, and Veena - pictured with Ruben Page at a LBCC Transfer Fair.During the academic year, I attend a number of events conducted by several local area community colleges, middle/high schools to promote the discipline of Engineering.

ROAR
(Recruitment, Outreach, Advising & Retention)

(l-r) Me, Barbara, Jamil, and Veena.(l-r) Veena, Jamil, Greg, me, and Monica.
In an effort to identify and resolve issues that affect the recruitment and retention of students, I developed the ROAR Support Group.  This group involves faculty, staff,  and students of the College of Engineering who volunteer  their time to examine and develop strategies to recruit and retain students.
Other Educational Event Participation James and Romulo demonstrate how strong magnets are!Veena gets a spin from Oscar as she illustrates an application of centrifugal force!
I also participate in educational outreach conducted by other institutions.  Above, my peer advisors help out with IVC's "Astounding Inventions".
