Archaeological Field Methods (Anth 450/550) and Archaeological Laboratory Methods (Anthropology 451/551)
For this class I have developed a manual (see course materials) and field class educational component to insure that students receive the best education possible in field methods. Exercises and assignments require students to complete site sheets, feature forms, environment summary sheets, classification of artifact types, etc. In addition, they learn how to set up grids and conduct geophysical explorations using cutting edge equipment, computers, and software. My students and I plan to develop in the near future an interactive/simulation computer program to teach the basics of archaeological methods. This program will be a prerequisite for attending the archaeological field school. The program will incorporate QuickTime film, detailed examination of slides and photographs, and narrative.
