Introduction to Archaeology (Anthropology 140)

I have incorporated a number of exercises and simulations into the class curriculum. Prof. Brian Fagan has recently published an article in American Antiquity which discusses an interactive computer program used in his classes which I have found most useful. I have built into the structure of this class the need for science in archaeology, quantitative methods, cutting edge technologies, geophysical research, etc. I have also stressed the value of studies that focus on contemporary environmental issues (global warming, population growth), multicultural issues, and gender. I also discuss the recent ethical issues that have become important to archaeologists around the world.
