Library Remodel Begins!

The long-awaited remodel of the Library has finally begun. Fences have been erected, entire floors have been cleared, walls have been put up and more.

You're probably thinking, "Oh no, I won't be able to get to anything I need!" Please be assured that we are doing all we can to not disrupt services. Items may take a little longer to retrieve, and space will be limited but in the end, we will have a wonderful new facility.

PLEASE CONTACT ME if you need anything at all and I will do my best to get you what you need.

You can keep up on the progress of the remodel here. See you in the Fall!

Mozart's 250th!

That's right, tomorrow (January 27, 2006) is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's 250th birthday. He has obviously "lived" with us much longer in death than his short life (35 years) would ever have predicted.

Look at some of our books, scores, or CDs on Mozart in COAST. Naxos Music Library has over 1000 pieces of his music to listen to.

  • KUSC will spend all day tomorrow broadcasting Mozart's music as will KMZT (of course!).
  • Visit Mozartland!
  • See what's happening in Salzburg, Mozart's birthplace
  • Try the Mozart Project
  • Make sure and get your Mozart Action Figure!
  • Did you know if you search "Mozart" in the Internet Movie Database, you get over 100 entries other than Amadeus?

Do you know about this?

The Librarians' Internet Index is a great place to send your students for Internet research. As it's subtitle "websites you can trust" implies, all sites have been evaluated by librarians and other information professionals.

Arranged in a similar manner to Yahoo, students using LII can be certain they are accessing websites with quality information. Tell your students to give it a try!

No classical music?

A very interesting article in the New Statesman ponders the question, why should children listen to Beethoven? Is classical music still relevant to our kids?
