Introduction

Sound on the web is used to amuse, attract, and entertain web surfers, but sound can also be effectively utilized to enhance the learning experience over the Internet. Audio is particularly an essential component for learning languages.

However, delivering sound through the web can be a daunting experience especially for the uninitiated. The Technology Showcase workshop on Thursday, March 29 from 3:00-5:00 PM in LAB-305 will follow the steps below to assist faculty on campus in incorporating audio files in pages on the Internet.

We will use the following software programs available on the computers LAB-305 to record, convert and upload the files created during the workshop:

• Divace: A specilized player/recorder for laguage learners. A 30-day free trail download is available for Windows users from Divace.com

• Real Producer Basic: The free version of a product used to create Real Media (audio/video) files for the web. The basic version is available for Macintosh and Windows users from RealNetworks.com

• Internet Explorer: We will use Internet Explorer to upload and view the sound web page. This web browser is available for Macintosh and Windows users from Microsoft

	Recording Audio This section will discuss methods of obtaining and creating originals materials, as well as appropriate digitizing techniques and software for various types of audio.
	Converting Audio This section will cover appropriate formats for audio to be delivered on the web and software available to convert digitized audio into these various formats.
	Upoading Audio to the Web This section will introduce what is hoped to be simple, step-by-step instructions for making digitized audio available on the web.
