Great Wall, China- What makes the civilization unique in world history is its continuity through over 4,000 years to the present century. The Great Wall of China remains one of the great wonders of the world. Stretching 12,700 km (4,500 miles), from the mountains of Korea to the Gobi Desert, it was first built to protect an ancient Chinese empire from marauding tribes from the north. The Great Wall has been listed National Heritages.

China has a population of 1.2 billion (one-fifth of the world population). The principal ethnic majority is the Han Chinese who account for 92% of the population. The remaining 8% include Chuang, Hui, Uigur, Yi, Miao, Mangchu,

Tibetans, Mongols, Ruyi and Koreans.

The most important religious beliefs include Confucianism which accounts for 20% of the population while Taoism accounts for 2%, Buddhism for 6% with around 2% of the population Muslim and 1% Christian.

Speaking of Chinese food, Chinese cuisine is a part of their cultures. The Chinese themselves like to say that we'll eat anything with four legs, except a table.

The cuisine can be divided into four regional categories:
1) Beijing/Mandarin and Shandong (with steamed bread and noodles as staples),

2) Cantonese and Chaozhou(lightly cooked meats and vegetables), 3) Shanghainese (the home of `red cooking' and wuxi spare ribs) and 4) Sichuan (spicy, with lots of chili).

China is also the home of tea which can be divided into green, black, perfumed, white and Wulong tea. Green teas Longjing and Biluochun; black tea, Oihong and Yunfeng; scented tea, jasmine tea; white tea, Yinzhenbaihao, Gongmei and Shoumei; Wulong tea, Dahongpao, and Tieguanyin.
