Julie Van Camp is Professor of Philosophy at California State University, Long Beach, where she teaches philosophy of art and philosophy of law. She received the Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award for 1998-99 and was named "Most Valuable Professor" in the College of Liberal Arts in May 2000. She holds an A.B. cum laude from Mount Holyoke College, where she majored in philosophy; a J.D. cum laude from Georgetown University, where she specialized in art law; and a Ph.D. in philosophy from Temple University, where she specialized in philosophy of art.
Her principal research interests are philosophical issues presented by art law (especially freedom of expression and copyright) and philosophy of dance. She has published articles in Art & Academe; the British Journal of Aesthetics; Dance Research Journal; the Oxford Encyclopedia of Aesthetics; the Journal of Aesthetic Education; the Journal of Arts Management, Law and Society; the Journal of Value Inquiry; and Metaphilosophy. She is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Society for Aesthetics and the Board of Editorial Consultants of the Journal of Aesthetic Education.
