If you go to a newsreader, such as the Netscape News Reader or WinVN (on most campus computers and also on Sprintlink), you will see a list of thousands of on-line discussion groups. Our class has its own discussion group.
csulb.courses.phil452 is the address of our discussion group. The name of the CSULB news server is: tabloid.csulb.edu. If you click here on the address and if your Web browser has a built-in news program, you should see a new window for the discussion group.
Every student is expected to participate regularly in the discussion group. This will also be used to post announcements to the class, so you should check it at least twice a week.
If you have never used a newsgroup before, ask the lab attendant to show you how to do this.
If you are using a commercial Internet service from off-campus, you will need a password to access our class discussion group. Send me an e-mail message and I will let you know what it is: jvancamp@csulb.edu

Assignment One

No later than Monday, 9/16, you should introduce yourself to the class on the class discussion group. Post a brief message about your interests in the course, your career plans, and your background at CSULB

Course Requirements

Throughout the course, from September 17 - December 12, you should actively participate in the on-line discussion group. At least once a week, you should contribute your ideas to one of the on-going discussions. You can post a response to questions posed by others and/or frame your own questions about the course materials and class discussions.

GRADUATE STUDENTS: In addition to the participation required of the undergraduates, you will be required to post discussion questions on three of the assigned class readings. We will discuss this the first day of class and you will be able to sign up for the three readings for which you will be responsible.

Grading

High Pass (outstanding participation all semester: 12 points

Pass (acceptable participation all semester): 6 points

Low Pass (some participation, for some of the semester): 3 points

Fail: 0 points
