Campus Computer Labs

The campus has extensive computer labs available to students seven days a week. You need only show your student ID to use them. Computer use on campus is completely free to you.
You can use the World Wide Web and access our class Newsgroup even without having an e-mail account. This access is free on-campus to registered students.
Once you have an e-mail account, you can access your e-mail in the student labs. A CSULB e-mail account is free to all registered students.
To obtain your CSULB e-mail account, please go to LA5-371 and bring your student ID. This office is open Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m., Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
If you completed an Internet Application Form the first day of class, your account is ready. You need to go to LA5-371, show your student ID, and obtain your account name and password.
Bring a 3-1/2" floppy disk with you to the campus computer lab so you can save messages and other materials you find on-line.
Lab attendants are on duty at all times. Don't hesitate to ask them for help with class computer work. That's what they're being paid to do.
You can print on laser printers in most of the student labs on campus for a nominal charge. You should purchase a campus Beach Club Account to pay for printing at the computer labs. Beach Club Accounts can be opened for a minimum of $10.00 at the CSULB 49er Bookstore.

The Labs are open the same hours as the Library itself.

The computer labs are located in the lower level, south of the Periodicals Room.

The New Media Center has Open Access labs with an ideal set-up for a study group to work together on a project.

The Office of Academic Computing Services is located in room 361 on the 3^rd Floor of the LA5 classroom building.

The ACS Labs are located on the 3^rd Floor of LA5 and are open seven days a week when the University is in session.

If you want to do your computer work from home or another location, you will need access to an Internet Service provider, such as CompuServe, America On-Line, or Prodigy.
To access our class discussion group (csulb.courses.phil452) from a commercial provider, you will need a password. Send me an e-mail message or check with me in class, and I will tell you what it is.
As a registered student, you are also eligible to obtain Internet access through Sprintlink on Campus for $12.50/month. A kiosk for enrolling in Sprintlink is located in the Library East corridor. You can also enroll on-line through the Sprintlink on Campus web site.
You can continue to use your CSULB e-mail address with Sprintlink and do not need to purchase a new one from them.
Sprintlink has local telephone access numbers in the 310, 213, and 818 area codes, and will soon add them for the 714 area code.
Your computer needs a high-speed modem, at least 14.4 bps and preferably 28.8 bps so you can download the Web's graphics files at a reasonable speed.
