PHIL 361/599 Philosophy of Art and Beauty

Spring 1998 - California State University, Long Beach

Lecture Notes: Week Fifteen: Final Assignments

We have now completed the reading list, so your only responsibilities between now and May 22 are completing the remaining course requirements. This will be the last time I post lecture notes for this course this semester.

DISCUSSION GROUP: Your grade for the second half of the course is based on your participation through Sunday, May 17 (midnight, PDT). Feel free to pursue any of the readings in Unit III in more detail and especially to follow up on discussion threads about aspects of those readings.

SHORT PAPER III: This is due Wednesday, May 13, at 12 noon PDT. The deadline for late papers (with a 4-point deduction) is Friday, May 15, at 12 noon PDT. The instructions, which have been posted since April 23, are available here:

http://www.csulb.edu/~jvancamp/361/361_a4.html

FINAL PROJECT: Instructions were posted March 30:

http://www.csulb.edu/~jvancamp/361/361_a5.html

In a "traditional" course, you would typically take a final exam and perhaps submit a final term paper. This Final Project replaces such requirements and should take about the same amount of time you would spend on those.

Late projects and papers are accepted for 48 hours after the deadline, with a 4-point deduction (unless you qualify for a University emergency deadline, which will normally require a physician's note to me explaining that you were so seriously ill you could not complete this or any other work).

As soon as you have your Web page posted, send me an e-mail with the URL ("Uniform Resource Locator" - "Web address"). I will post a class page on Thursday, May 21 with all of the class URLs so you can take a look at each other's work.

WEB TRAINING: Please see the detailed information in Lecture Notes: Week Ten:

http://www.csulb.edu/~jvancamp/361/361_n10.html

I am available to meet with you for individual appointments to work on your web-authoring at the following times:

Please note that these are not expanded office hours. If no one schedules an appointment with me, I won't be in my office, except for regular Wednesday office hours.

I'm also happy to troubleshoot via e-mail on web-authoring problems. Tell me as much detail as you can about where you're stuck and I'll get back to you ASAP. You can also call on the telephone during office hours with questions (562-985-5545).

COURSE EVALUATION:

FINAL COURSE GRADES: My grades are due Wednesday, May 27. I will plan to send you individual e-mail messages with your grade for the course and final project. If you have several e-mail addresses, let me know which one you prefer. If you share an e-mail account with someone else, and prefer that I not send out your grade by e-mail, please let me know that too.

THANK YOU: I've enjoyed working with all of you this semester on this experiment. Thanks for your patience and persistence in mastering the Internet skills needed to complete the course. I've learned a lot from you that will help me in the future, and I hope you've learned some things yourself about philosophy of art and the Internet.
