Freudian Doughnuts In film theory class
we discuss
post-postmodernism
while watching an episode
of Twin Peaks.
In one scene
doughnuts
on a plate
on a table
prompt the question:
But what do the doughnuts mean?

Do they signify the presence of the police?
Do they represent female genitalia
ripped from the woman’s body
and placed on display
for the male world to mock?
Are they the absence of hope
encircled by an eternity of despair
powered with sugar?

Ya know,
sometimes a doughnut
is just a doughnut.
