Old Faithful Geyser Basin
Grand Canyon of Yellowstone | Mammoth Hot Springs | West Thumb | Yellowstone Lake Area | Yellowstone Index | National Parks Index | John Powell's Home Page
Old Faithful Geyser Basin, located in the southwest portion of Yellowstone, was our second stop on this trip. It has an extensive wood boardwalk system that takes you around the basin next to some of the most spectacular geysers and hot springs in Yellowstone. Oh yes, it also has Old Faithful.
In addition to the most famous geyser of Yellowstone, the oldest building in the National Park system, Old Faithful Inn, is located here. This inn, built mainly out of whole pine logs, impressed me as much as the geysers outside.

Looking
up to "crows nest" at about the 5th floor level. We learned
that decades ago string quartets used to play up there while the lobby
was used for dancing. This was also used long ago as an access to the
roof's "widow's walk".
