Black & White Photos

Way back when I used to have access to a darkroom, starting with one that a friend and I built, then on to Brooks Institute, I used to take photos in Black and White. This is the medium that most amateurs as well as professionals start with. If you have ready access to a darkroom there is something magical about developing and printing your own photos, at least for a while.

Now that these shots have "aged" for a while, I discovered a sense of nostalgia while looking at them again. So, here I present some of my Black and White work......

As you can see, there was a time when shadows intrigued me. I planned to do a whole series of shadow photos but I found myself without access to a darkroom and that plan ended. In any case, sometimes shadows are a better photo than the real item itself.

From left to right: A rock outcrop near Sedona Arizona, two views of an old abandoned house in a mining ghost town somewhere near Sedona Arizona.

From left to right: One look at the Santa Barbara Mission, perhaps the most photographed California Mission, a stairway at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse, Mission Dam in Santa Barbara (no, that's not my dog), trees at a campground at the Grand Canyon.
