The regional marketing system with a central daily market in Oaxaca City at the Centro de Abastos and Benito Juárez markets, and tianguis and covered market in Central Valley towns on different days of the week has been in practice since at least the 16th century.
The class visited the Thursday market
in Zaachila (known for livestock), Friday market in Ocotlán (flowers),
the Sunday market in Tlacolula (known for produce and crafts), and the
Monday market in Ixtlan de Juárez.
