2: The Three-Tiered Pagoda

Imbedded in the pathway before we see the pagoda is a stone carving. The step-stone is a panel of a mythical scene, depicting a dragon weaving its way through the clouds. According to legend they foretell the coming of prosperity and supposedly control the wind and the rain.

The pagodas are miniature models of temples. They stand as a reminder of the influence of Buddhism on the development of Japanese gardens
