Enough About Criminal Justice! What About Santa?

With the semester finally over (except for professors who are, no doubt, grading papers) there is really only one important question left to consider: where is Santa at now? Crime in Los Angeles Continues Downward Trend

According to a report from the Los Angeles Police, crime in the city has dropped by 10% as compared to 2004, though nobody seems quite certain as to the reasons.

Poor Response to Gangs?

According to the Los Angeles Times the Los Angeles Sheriff's department has reduced the size of its gang units despite a jump of 30% in the number of gang related homicides this year in areas that the Sheriff's department is responsible for policing.

Police Are Rarely Prosecuted

According to a Los Angeles Times article since January 2001 there have been 442 officer-involved shootings, and 314 allegations of excessive-force. Governor Ordered to Make Changes

Governor Schwarzenegger was ordered by a federal judge to appoint someone, by Thursday, to begin implementing changes to the health care system in California's prisons -- a system that the Los Angeles Times reports "kills an average of one California inmate each week."
