Course Requirements
:

Electric and Magnetic Interaction, 3rd Edition, volume 2, by Chabay. (Campus Bookstore). Scientific calculator (A 12 dollars calculator with Sin, Cos, Tan and Inverse-Tan. Three Scantrons No 882-E. (Please do not fold or write anything on scantrons).


Note: The following is my planned schedule as of the first day of classes. I reserve the right to make minor adjustments. I will try to give you adequate notice. Tentative lecture Schedule and Reading Assignments

Exams: Exams will consist of two midterms and a final. The final exam is semi-comprehensive. Exams are multiple choices and problems. In order to obtain partial credits you must show detail work on exams. No makeup exams will be permitted. Notice: Letter grades are not given for each exams. Only percentage scores on each exam are important. The class average for each exams are considered as a middle C grades.

Midterm1: Thurs, March 3rd: Chapters: 14-16. Midterm 2: Thurs, April 14: Chapters: 17-19. Final Exam: Thurs, May 19: 8:00-10:00. Chapters: 14-24.
Grading Policy: T (your total scores)= (Mid 1) x20% + (Mid 2) x20%+(Final) x30%+(Lab)x20%+(HW) x10%. Letter grades are based on overall T (the total average) for the entire class.


Lectures: We shall cover approximately one to two chapters per week. Lectures are based on in depth class discussions on text materials and problem solving skill in applied physics and math.


Homework: Homework for all chapters are collected at the beginning of the final exam. I recommend that you do all of the assigned homework problems, as similar problems will be given on the exams. You are strongly advised to do all of the homework problems on your own. Study text examples before doing your homework problems.


Things to watch out for

a) Attendance and participation in lecture class is strongly encouraged. (An attendance sheet is passed around at the beginning of each class period)
b) Disruptive behavior will be reported immediately to the school security and authorities. Disruptive behaviors are defined as talking to a person or friend next to you during the lectures. Making unnecessary noises to interrupt others from learning. Please do not eat or drink during my lectures.
c) There will be no makeup for midterm exams or the final exams. Exams cannot be taken earlier then the dates specified. You will get a zero grade for each missed exam. I only give a make up exam if your are sick or hospitalized. Doctor's note stating your medical reason for not taking the exam is required.
d) You are responsible for all changes announced in class, whether you are present or not.
e) Please familiarize yourself with the "School of the Natural Science" policy regarding the dead line for dropping this course.
f) If you have any comments regarding this class, please slip a note with no name under my door or my mailbox in the physics department. Your input is appreciated.
