Hobbies & Interests

Here is some information about Hank, the person,
rather than Hank, the social scientist, lawyer, or professor.

Movies, Movies, and More Movies:

Going to the movies is one of my favorite pastimes. My favorite types of movies are suspense thrillers like "Silence of the Lambs," but I especially like those with twist endings (e.g., "Shattered," "Body Double," "Seven," "No Way Out," "The Sixth Sense," and "Jagged Edge"). I also enjoy horror films ("The Exorcist" still remains the champ; "Interview With A Vampire" runs a close second), action/adventure flicks (all Indiana Jones movies, the three "Lethal Weapons," "Under Siege," and "Terminator I & T2"), intelligent comedies ("Moonstruck," "Trick," "The Jerk," Steve Martin's version of "Father of the Bride," "Tootsie," and "Mrs. Doubtfire" are particular favorites), dramas ("Good Will Hunting," "Legends of the Fall," "The Black Book," "The Lives of Others"), especially courtroom dramas ("A Few Good Men," "...And Justice For All," "The Accused," and "The Exorcism of Emily Rose"), science fiction ("Matrix," "Aliens," all the "Star Treks", and while I know it's trite, the "Star Wars" trilogy rules!), and the best are the types that combine elements of all of my favorites ("Titanic").

I can do without dumb romantic comedies (too many to name, but well-done ones like "Sleepless in Seattle" are cool), plot-less comedies (anything that ever starred Pee-Wee Herman, Ernest, Pauly Shore, Seth Rogan, Will Farrell), music documentaries (just go to a concert), and all martial arts films. Oh, and long live the great classics like "Gone With The Wind," "The Wizard of Oz," "Psycho," "The Pit and the Pendulum," "The Amityville Horror," "Hello Dolly," "The Godfather I & II," etc.

Music:

Music is a passion of mine. I love to sing!  But even when others are doing the singing, I enjoy music of all types from classical to jazz, easy listening to pop, Broadway to opera, classic rock to heavy metal. Basically, I like everything except country, acid rock/speed metal, or rap/hip hop/etc.  And for those of you who think disco is dead . . . it never died in my home.  Seventies music, especially disco, always gets this normally reluctant dancer out on the floor.   My favorite composers are Aaron Copeland, Sergei Rachmaninov, Giacomo Puccini, Gioachino Rossini, Giuseppe Verdi, and John Williams.  And here are my favorite musical artists, in alphabetical order.

Other Hobbies:

I enjoy dining out, bowling, cooking, driving fast, computing, theater, reading, traveling both internationally and domestically, and playing games -- especially Taboo, Outburst, 25 Words or Less, Catch Phrase, Guesstures, Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble, Risk, chess, and backgammon. I also love to play cards -- especially spades, hearts, canasta, Pai Gow poker, and ronjazz.

My favorite authors include Dan Brown, John Morgan Wilson, John Grisham, Scott Turow, Patricia Cornwell, Michael Crichton, Robin Cook, Stephanie Meyer, Anne Rice, and Christopher Rice. And, while it should be obvious from the nature of my web site, I enjoy computing and playing on the Internet.
