Art 110 Section 3 - Extra Credit

Museum Visits

As you know, the whole "For each trip you make to a museum you should submit:
• 1 - a dated ticket stub and
• 2 - a one-page typed write-up briefly describing and analyzing what you saw."

Is just way, way too 20th Century for us. Why kill so many trees needlessly when we can email the stuff without harming any electrons. So, for our museum trips it will be a photo of you at the museum and 300 words in the body of the email that includes the photo.

Photo Details

See each specific trip for the details on the photo you need to take. Museums generally allow you to take photographs of their "permanent collection," you often can't take photos of their traveling exhibitions. I'll never ask you to break any museum's rules... of course, we all love to see an, uh... "inspired" photo :+)

SEND IN YOUR OWN PICTURES
You're encouraged to go in groups. Not everybody has a car, the person sitting next to you or in front of you maybe could really use a ride. Plus you'll save on gas money and parking. But the most important thing is... THIS SHOULD BE FUN!!! So go in a group of 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 and share the art experience. See if you think the same things are genius or stupid or unusual or curious. BUT... even though I love to see you going in groups... EVERYONE HAS TO EMAIL IN THEIR OWN PICTURES TO GET EXTRA CREDIT!

Please name your files: LastName_FirstName-Museum.jpg
for example:
Zucman_Glenn-MOCA.jpg
Zucman_Glenn-LACMA.jpg
Zucman_Glenn-Watts.jpg

If you're sending multiple images, then just add a number:
Zucman_Glenn-MOCA1.jpg
Zucman_Glenn-MOCA2.jpg
Zucman_Glenn-MOCA3.jpg

To send your email please use the links in each EC details web page... that will automatically address your email to myself and our TA and give it the proper subject heading. I love it when you use your CSULB email accounts, however it's okay if you want to email from Yahoo, Gmail, etc... BUT your submissions will only be accepted if your NAME is set to your name. So... no emails from "YourPsychoGirlFriend" it has to be from "Glenn Zucman."

In Outlook Express you set your name by going:
Tools > Accounts >
Double-click on the account and under
User Information > Name
make sure it has YOUR NAME and not "MyPsychoGirlFriend" etc...

JUST SEND THE FILE
Please don't send me links to online libraries where I can find images or order prints. Please don't paste your images in an MS-Word document. Just attach your pictures to an email. Also, don't send little itty-bitty files, go ahead and send the full size image. In fact, if you send the raw camera file, then we can look at your camera data and figure out things like exposure time when we're trying to understand how you managed to take such an amazing picture.

I will accept cell phone pictures if that's all you can do, but you and the art have to be big enough to see in the picture and I'm not responsible if you can't figure out how to email the camera phone file. If you do use a cell phone, be sure to set it to maximum image size before you shoot. If you want to shoot film or disposable film cameras, you can just scan your pictures at the Horn Center - let me know if you need any help with it or you can also ask the lab techs at the Horn Center for help. Also the place that processes your film might have a "put pictures on a CD" option for you.

If you're caravanning to multiple museums in a day... don't forget a snapshot of the food!
That's important too ya know!

RED-EYE REDUCTION
While there is much about photography that I wish I had time to teach you - like hold the camera still! Brace it with your body; lean up against a wall if you have to - maybe the simplest important thing to say is, if you're using flash on a person (like yourself) turn on the camera's "red-eye reduction" feature. Also, as we saw in some examples in class, "slow-sync" can be pretty cool sometimes, definitely think about using it! (ask me if you aren't sure how to set it on your camera)
