Partnerships in Research & Outreach for Health

Text Box: Dr. Urizar’s research in the area of Health Psychology has focused on examining psychosocial, behavioral, and physiological factors associated with physical and mental health outcomes.

The primary objective of this research has been to identify groups at-risk for chronic health problems and to develop and test community– and hospital-based interventions designed to promote chronic disease prevention and management in medically underserved populations. A number of grants from NIH, and other Federal and State agencies have supported this work.

As part of this objective, PRO-Health was established by Dr. Urizar in 2006 to promote healthy living through community partnerships and by providing state-of-the-art health services and programs for at-risk populations.

PRO-Health addresses several areas of health, including:

Assessing one’s risk for cardiovascular disease

Examining the effects of stress on health

Investigating factors that may impact the health of mothers and their babies during pregnancy and after childbirth
