In this assignment you will learn how Urban and Regional Planners use GIS to streamline and automate the "notification process." Every time a project occurs in a jurisdiction, the citizens who will potentially be affected by the change MUST be notified in advance. A "buffer" around the project area for a specified distance is created and a mailing list generated for project details and public hearing notices.  We will use data from the City of Lakewood, CA to test some methods.

In this exercise you will learn how to :

• Use Model Builder to Create an Automated procedure for notification.
• Learn about Assessor's parcel maps and Cadastral Data
• Explore Scripting and Programming methods for routinized GIS operations.

• Select which Parcel will have the Project.
• Buffer the Parcel for the required distance (usually 500 or 1,000 ft) to identify potentially affected citizenry
• Overlay the Buffer Area with the Land Ownership records
• List the Owner's Name and Address for creating a Mailing List for Address Label printing.
