Community Nutrition Experience

Interns spend 8weeks in community nutrition facilities. During the experience Interns may teach nutrition classes to students in schools, to participants in the 'Women, Infant and Children' program, to preschool children and their parents at Head Start facilities, to seniors in a congregate meal site, or to employees in a wellness program. Each Intern is assigned to one or more of the following major facilities:

Nutrition Therapy and Foodservice Management Experience

Interns spend a minimum of 8 weeks in a major medical center for the nutrition therapy experience and 8 weeks in a major foodservice management facility. The medical and foodservice facilities are often the same.

For example, each Intern is assigned to one of the following sites for the nutrition therapy and the foodservice management rotations:

Each Intern spends two weeks in the district office of a school food service. The participating facilities include the following:

Nutrition Therapy Specialties

Nutrition therapy specialties in pediatrics, burns and trauma are available. If one of these specialties does not exist at the Intern's major clinical rotation, then the Intern is assigned to at least a 1-week specialty rotation at one of the following:

Each Intern is assigned to a 1- to 2-week clinical trial or community research experience with either County USC Medical Center or Harbor-UCLA General Clinical Research Center, Torrance, CA.

Business/Entrepreneurial Specialties
