a note from the curator, April 2005

The week of so.cal.sonic was a smashing success! We had an average of 40-50 people in attendance each night, with over 100 filtering in throughout the evening on Friday. Lots of great music with very few, if any, glitches, technical or logistical. What a great way to celebrate free music in Long Beach!

We're currently reviewing the hours of audio and video recordings of the events, and will post what we can soon.

A hearty thanks to Shea M. Gauer, of Open, Parabolic Productions, and Soundwalk 2005, whose unfailing support, enthusiasm, dedication, and hard physical work made this festival what it was. Without him, I would have been lost.

Thanks also to Rachel Brophy of the Odyssey Theme Project at CSULB for her patience and administrative brilliance in all of the behind-the-scenes efforts at getting this show off the ground.

A round of applause to all the musicians, composers, and sound artists who participated in this year's festival. Thanks to all of the attentive and interested audience members, some of whom were exposed to these types of music for the first time.

More to come!
