Cal State Long Beach Spends Millions on Indian Wars

In the midst of the worst fiscal crisis in the history of the California State University system, CSU officials are spending millions of dollars fighting local Indians. Although CSU officials refuse to release complete figures, the available evidence indi cates that at least $1.5 million has been spent on development costs, campus archaeology, and legal fees associated with this project. Over half of this money comes from the General Fund, the money from student fees and the state allocation which is inten ded for instruction and instructional support.

The use of General Fund money for these sorts of non-instructional enterprises, though perhaps not illegal, raises questions about the priorities of the current administration and its commitment to the Master Plan for Higher Education. These are considered more fully in papers on Puvungna-Gate and Millions on Indian Wars (not yet available on the net). Also, see the paper on NAGPRA.
