10. Sat, Jan 10: Prayer Gathering at Puvungna, 12noon-4pm
In support of Germaine Tremmel and 100 other AIM members/supporters who
are currently under review for acts of domestic terrorism. Under the Patriot
Act, the statute of limitations has been lifted from certain cases dating
back to 1973; the era of the infamous "reign of terror" that
occurred particularly on the reservations of South Dakota. Germaine Tremmel,
"Lady Seen By Her Nation" is a descendent of Sitting Bull and
a relative of the Jumping Bull family. It was the firefight on Jumping
Bull's land that left two FBI agents dead and one Indian man murdered
and resulted in the incarceration of Leonard Peltier. Today, her files
and those of 100 others are being reviewed to determine if there is enough
evidence to bring charges against them, 30 years later! Join us in a traditional,
prayerful gathering in support of all Native nations and in solidarity
with our AIM family members, past and present. Puvungna is located on
the campus of Cal State Long Beach. For more information call: 310-828-9514

12. Sun, Jan 11: Long Beach Area Voters For A New Foreign Policy, 5-7pm
LBAPN has endorsed California Peace Action's call for a New Foreign Policy.
While George Bush's foreign policy has been a disaster, his election or
defeat is only part of the larger picture. It is equally important to
demonstrate that millions of Americans want more than mere critiques of
his policies - we want a fundamental change in our country's relationship
with the rest of the world. In a choice between Bush and Bush-lite, there
can be no victory. California Peace Action will send a representative
to talk to LBAPN and other Long Beach groups about ways we can work together
in voter registration, peace education, lobbying legislators, and GOTV
in March and November. Join us on Sunday, January 11 at 5pm the Unitarian
Church, 5450 Atherton Street (next to Arco Station, just west of the corner
of Bellflower & Atherton). Potluck and socialize from 5-6, meeting

The movie was directed by Tim Robbins... who will be at the Egyptian to
discuss his film after it's screening. Robbins will also take questions
from the audience. The movie will screen at 7:30 pm. More info about the
film, the Egyptian's location and film calendar, can be found at:
http://www.egyptiantheatre.com/mastercalendar.htm
Recall that Robbins took incredibly flak for speaking out in opposition
to Bush's invasion of Iraq. Every activist should attend this screening
to support the Egyptian Theatre, sez Mark Vallen www.art-for-a-change.com

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired
signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not
fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not
spending money alone; it is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius
of its scientists, the hopes of its children." --- President Dwight
D. Eisenhower
