Course Information

TI:ME 1A: Basic Skills in Music Technology: Electronic Keyboards, MIDI Sequencing, and Notation
The course will cover basic skills in music notation, MIDI sequencing, and electronic keyboards in K-12 education. Participants will explore many ways to incorporate these tools into the curriculum. The course will be taught in a hands-on environment. Satisfactory participation in class activities and successful completion of several projects will be required. This course fulfills half of TI:ME Level 1 certification requirement. Maximum of one person per computer station, 16 students maximum.

PREREQUISITE: This course requires basic facility on a computer, including using a mouse, opening applications, and saving files. If you are a beginning computer user, contact the instructor for information regarding basic computer skills you will need to successfully complete this course.  

TI:ME 1B: Basic Skills in Music Technology: Instructional Software, Communications, and Digital Media
The course will cover basic skills in using computer instructional software, configuring and using computers on networks and the Internet, and the basics of using digital media in K-12 education. Participants will explore many ways to incorporate these tools into the curriculum. The course will be taught in a hands-on environment. This course fulfills half of the TI:ME Level One Certification requirement. Maximum of 1 person per computer station, 16 students maximum.

PREREQUISITE: This course requires basic facility on a computer, including using a mouse, opening applications, naming and saving files, clicking and dragging, copying files, and basic windows operations (closing, resizing, expanding, minimizing). If you are a beginning computer user, you are required to attend the orientation session on [date] to gain the basic computer skills you will need to successfully complete this course. It is strongly recommended that beginners take TI:ME 1A: Basic Skills with Electronic Keyboards, MIDI Sequencing, and Notation prior to registering for this course.

TI:ME Certification

Level 1 Certification Procedures

  1. Complete TI:ME 1A and TI:ME 1B courses at any authorized TI:ME site.
  2. Submit the TI:ME Level 1 Registration & Certification Form

When you have completed the requirements for certification, TI:ME will mail to you a certificate suitable for framing.

Any music educator wishing to obtain TI:ME Level One certification must take two required courses and submit an application to TI:ME along with the appropriate fees. TI:ME membership is also required.

LEVEL 1 focuses on teacher awareness and the use of technology in music education. At the completion of LEVEL 1 teachers should be familiar with the seven areas of technology and begin to use technology to prepare lesson plans and materials. They should be prepared to begin integrating technology into their classes and performing groups.Required Level One certification courses are: Course 1A: Basic Skills in Music Technology: Electronic Instruments, MIDI Sequencing, and Notation and Course 1B: Basic Skills in Music Technology: Instructional Software, Communications, and Digital Media.

If you already have substantial experience with technology and wish to apply for Level 1 certification without first taking level 1 courses, please look into our alternative certification procedure.

Basic Course Fees

Course Fee $400 - includes instruction and materials. If you would like to take both the 1A and 1B course, the total for both courses combined is $650.

Certificate Fee $35  - upon completion of course, payment sent directly to TI:ME.
