Chthon, by Ensemble of the Dreamings, is a CD ROM adventure that takes place in the world of dream where logic and time follow different rules. In an immersive, 3-D rendered environment, the player explores strange and fantastical dream tableaux, weaving together clues provided by music, objects, and characters in the dream world.

Following a sequence of beautiful, lucid dream flight, a creature of wings and blades cuts the lucid moment to pieces, the fragments of which need to be recovered and planted (incubated) in a garden. The successful nurturing of these fragments allow the player to reenter the dream s/he has planted. The Garden will serve as a 'hub' to which the dreamer can return.

The player begins in a state of non-lucidity, without control of movement or time. Unable to interact with the dream, the player will be challenged to solve dream-logic, the symbolism and rules of the dream world, with the help of the Dream Guide.The understanding and correct application of dream-logic results in increased lucidity, allowing more control over the environment.

As the game progresses, the player must master increasingly difficult dream-logic tasks and interact with music and game characters in a more elaborate way. Ultimately, the player's dream journey will be recounted in climactic music and imagery by the Oracle.
