Our Mission Statements:


California State University, Long Beach is a large, urban comprehensive university in the California State University system. Its mission is high-quality education leading toward a broad range of baccalaureate and graduate degrees spanning the liberal arts and sciences and many applied and professional fields, with emphasis on instruction at the upper division and graduate levels, in accordance with the California Master Plan for Higher Education. The mission of the Masters of Public Administration program at the Graduate Center for Public Policy and Administration is to recruit and educate a diverse student population with the professional competencies necessary for leadership and management roles in the public service and in community-based and nonprofit organizations. The curriculum emphasizes the skills necessary for ethical and efficient public management, including planning, policy analysis and decision-making that best represents the public interest.

Fall 2001

Government and Community Relations
PPA 581 (three units)- This course will utilize a unique, hands-on approach which will turn the greater Los Angeles area into a public affairs laboratory. Students will be taken to innovative city halls, behind the scenes at ports, airports and into board rooms and project sites of significant public affairs activities offered by government and community based organizations. Students will travel with their instructor to nearby locations where local officials will host the on-site discussions, tours and demonstrations.
