Frazer in footnote #4 to Apollodorus 3.10.4
seems to say that there was one Perieres who was the son of Aeolus and the father of Aphareus and Leucippus, and that there was another Perieres who was the son of Cynortes and the father of Oebalus; this Oebalus married Bateia and was the father of Tyndareus, Hippocoon and Icarius. Pausanias says Perieres was the son of Aeolus, that Gorgophone, daughter of Perseus, married Perieres, son of Aeolus, and had two sons, Aphareus and Leucippus; then Perieres died; Gorgophone married Oebalus, son of Cynortas, and had a son Tyndareus. Apollodorus says that Perieres and Gorgophone had four sons, Aphareus, Leucippus, Tyndareus and Icarius. The two traditions agree that Tyndareus' mother was Gorgophone, but one says his father was Perieres, the other says he was Oebalus. There was yet another tradition, saying that Oebalus had three children by one wife, Tyndarius, Icarius and Arene, and a bastard son Hippocoon by a woman named Nicostrate;
