Pandora .

Notes

In Greek
pân = all
dôron = a gift
pandóra = giver of all

Made at the behest of Zeus by Hephaestus from earth and water. Athena taught her
needlework and weaving, and clothed her; Aphrodite endowed her with beauty and
the power to inspire longing; Hermes placed in her a shameless mind and larcenous
character. She was sent to Epimetheus with a jar which contained troubles, toil,
illnesses, and hope. Pandora released the evils, which now afflict mankind, but hope
remains in the jar.
