In Greek
paláme = palm of the hand

Achaean, fought in Trojan War, tricked Odysseus into showing sanity so that 
Odysseus was forced to go to the Trojan War.  In revenge Odysseus set up a plot 
which led the Achaean leaders to believe that Palamedes intended to betray them, 
and Palamdes was stoned to death by his own comrades.
