kalli- = beautiful
kallíste = most beautiful (modifying a feminine noun)

Note: The story that Zeus took Arcas from the womb of his dead mother is in 
Apollodorus, 3.8.2; the story that Arcas while hunting chased his mother, who was in 
the bear form, into a temple, and that Arcas and Callisto were about to be put to death 
for trespassing, when Zeus intervened and changed them into constellations, comes 
from Hyginus, Astronomy 2.4.
Callisto prefered Artemis to Zeus and was raped by Zeus.  Hera turned her into a bear. 
 Zeus turned her into a star, Ursa Major
