Cal State
Long Beach's College of Education received a three-year,
$1.29 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
The Department of Education awarded 122 grants totaling
$128 million over the next three years as a part of
‘Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology' grants
program. Eight Cal State Universities, including
Long Beach, were awarded a total of $9.5 million, according
to the public affairs office at CSULB.
"The money
is about working with faculty in existing programs that
help teachers to make sure they are competent, confident
users of technology in the classroom," Robert Bredan,
director of technology said. "Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers
to Use Technology," or PT3, "encourages partnerships
among colleges, universities elementary and secondary
schools, community-based organizations and technology
companies (and) will train 200,000 new teachers to become
technology-proficient by the year 2003," according to
public affairs office at CSULB.
