Belmont rapes remain unsolved

The Belmont Shore rapist has not been active
since his March attack on a 76-year-old woman in the College Park Estates
neighborhood, according to Long Beach police, who are continuing their
investigation.
LBPD bloodhounds traced a scent, possibly
belonging to the rapist, to the dorms here at Cal State Long Beach the
night of the College Park rape.
Though the police bloodhounds tracked a
scent to this campus, Skipworth assures, "This campus is an extraordinarily
safe environment."
The rape may be connected to six other
rapes in the Belmont Shore and Belmont Heights area during the past three
years, police said.
The rapist enters through an unlocked window
or back sliding door, police spokesman Steve Filippini said.
With summer now upon us, people are opening
windows and doors, leaving a possible entrance for the rapist, Blair said.
However, "There are ways to be secure and
provide ventilation," she said, noting that home improvement and supply
stores sell products that provide ventilation and retain the home's security.
"Deterrents give a criminal less motivation,
but it is also a matter of preference, convenience and options," said Lt.
