Campus construction scheduled

Summer Forty-Niner
Be prepared to sweat it out at University
Library this summer.
The facility will be without air conditioning
for several months as a new system is installed and the library roof is
replaced, according to Dale Hartmann, construction manager for Cal State
Long Beach.
The refurbishment highlights a number of
projects that are to be undertaken this summer.
Chain link fencing surrounds several fine
arts buildings where renovation is in full swing and is scheduled to be
completed August 2001, Hartmann said. Art buildings FA1, FA2, the art galleries
and the University Art Store, which has been temporarily moved to FA4,
remain closed.
Chalkboard and floor-tile abatement in
LA5 will wrap up a project that involved many classrooms on campus, Hartmann
said.
The chalkboards are being replaced with
modern dry-erase boards and old asbestos floor tiles will be replaced with
vinyl.
Renovation of the elevators in the SSPA
building continues. The repairs include the installation of new elevator
cars, control units and hydraulic equipment. There is no elevator access
to the third floor. The work is scheduled for completion July 5.
Selected parking lots around campus will
be getting a facelift this summer from a process called slurring, said
Tom Bass, senior director of parking and transportation services. Maintenance
crews will re-saturate parking surfaces by pouring on a petrol chemical,
followed by repainting lines.
Slurring will begin on a section on University
Drive East, between Palo Verde Avenue and the east turnaround.
"That will be done on the weekends to avoid
congestion problems," Bass said. "Fortunately the process of
slurring is a quick one, typically a three day project." |
