ARTS FAST READS
Mariachi Cobre will perform at the
Long Beach Arene on June 17 at 8 p.m. Comprised of 12 mariachis combining
Spanish, Mestizo and Amerindian musical styles, the concert, "Fiesta!"
will close out the Long Beach POPS! Season.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m. for indoor
picnicking, admission ranges from $25 - $65 for table seating and $18 -
$22 for balcony seats. Senior, student and group discounts are available,

The University Art Museum will be
hosting "Beyond the Boundaries" on June 20. This exhibit will feature
the works of 65 different California photographers including artists just
starting out.
The exhibition will be touring several
locations and the UAM is the tour's first stop.

SHAFT
Who's the black private dick who's a sex
machine to all the chicks?
Shaft is back. In this update of the original
1971 classic film, Samuel L. Jackson plays John Shaft, the nephew of the
first hero. This time Shaft has to catch a college-aged murderer (Christian
Bale), before he has Shaft caught and killed. During his hunt
for the killer and the only witness to the murder (Toni Collette), Shaft
is being hunted by two of his corrupt colleagues. "Shaft" also
stars Vanessa L. Williams, Busta Rhymes and Richard Roundtree who reprises
his role as the original John Shaft.
BOYS AND GIRLS
"Boys and Girls" is about college guys
trying to find any girl to date, but when one of the guys falls in love
with his friend, romantic conflict ensues.
The film stars Freddie Prinze Jr., Jason
Biggs, Claire Forlani, Heather Donahue and Alyson Hannigan.
TITAN A.E.
In the year 3028, after Earth's destruction,
hum-anity's only hope for future existence is in the hands of Cale (Matt
Damon), a young man who holds a map that is the key to finding the only
thing that can save mankind.
This animated feature also stars the voices
of Drew Barrymore, Bill Pullman, Nathan Lane, Janeane Garofalo and John
Leguizamo.
FANTASIA 2000
Released only in IMAX theaters at the beginning
of the year, "Fantasia 2000" is now being released for a limited time in
35mm theaters.
Adding onto the classic 1940 Disney film,
the new Fantasia combines symphonies with animation.
The film also features the original segment,
"The Sorcerer's Apprentice."
The film includes introductions by James
Earl Jones, Quincy Jones, Angela Lansbury, Steve Martin and Bette Midler. |
