Students and teachers met out of class Wednesday as more
than 400 swarmed the annual Education Job Fair at the University Student Union.
"There's a huge shortage of teachers," said Judi Walker, director of Educational Career Services at CSULB, "so we see this as an excellent opportunity for students to make contact with future employers."
"We'll have about 300 job openings this fall," said Lisa Isbell, a coordinator of professional development at Long Beach Unified School District. "Last year we got 200 applications from the fair, and we're hoping to get more this time."
Representatives from all over Southern California were present, as well as some from Monterey.
"I'm finishing my credentials this semester," said Kelly Cramond, an art education major . "I want to get a job teaching art when I'm done."
Students and alumni gathered around the recruiters, filling out applications or handing over resumes.
CSULB is among the top four producers of teachers in the California State
University system, according to an ECS press release, and CSU educates 60
percent of the state's teachers.
