Despite the men and women's track teams finishing last at the Idaho State Quadranglar meet, the 49ers numerous individual national qualifing performances helped round out a fine event.
Competing against Idaho State, Boise State, Utah State and Brigham Young, the indoor track and field squads competed last Friday in Pocatello, Id.
On the women's side, freshman Amaris Buchanan won the 60-meter race with a time of 7 minutes, 55 seconds, a new school record.
Buchanan also finished fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.53. Junior Kristy Kierulff won the high jump with a leap of a 5 feet, 11.75 inches, a school record as well, with her mark registering a National Qualifying Performance for the 1999 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Indoor Meet on Feb. 19-20 in Reno, Nevada.
Tayyiba Haneef came in third with a jump of 5 feet, 8 inches. Marion Reneau was second in the long jump with a mark of 18 feet, 10 inches and placed forth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.01.
Some outstanding performances were put on by the men's team as well.
Borya Celentano won the pole vault with a mark of 18 feet, .50 inches, the second best jump in school history and a national qualifying performance.
Jon O'Neil finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 59 feet, 10.25 inches, a new school record.
Darby Kelly finished third in the long jump with a mark of 22 feet, 1.50 inches.
Kashus Perona was third in the 400-meters with a time of 49.06 and eighth in the 200-meters with a time of 22.65.
The Beach also won the men's 4x400 Meter Relay with a time of 3.14.95.
