With renovations being finished this semester, Student Health Services is ready to provide better services in its offices and on the go.

"Keep them healthy, keep them in class," said Renee Twigg, director of Student Health Services. "That is the goal of the 'new' health center."

One of the major additions to Health Services is the new computer system. It provides the staff with an electronic record of the patient in a shorter period of time.

Twigg hopes this new system will make a visit to Health Services faster and more efficient for all students.

One of the most useful benefits this new system will bring is on-the-spot service around campus. Health Services will announce the dates and times in which it will be in different locations around campus to assist students with health information and clearing any health-related holds on registration.

On-the-spot services will also help students be aware of the services and facilities provided by Health Services. The goal is to increase customer service, Twigg said.

Another major addition to Health Services is a larger pharmacy. The pharmacy will be twice as big as it is now and have two pharmacists assisting students for faster service. In addition, the pharmacy will have a privacy window available for instructions on different types of medication.

The Health Resource Center is also being expanded and contains information on any subject from nutrition to family planning. Greeted by a staff member every time, Twigg hopes to be able to provide a printout of the most current information on any subject in question.

Renovations began last May and two-thirds of the building has been completed. The finishing touches are planned for this spring.

Twigg has been the director of Student Health Services for about two years. She started planning changes within a year of her arrival and is finally seeing some of the exciting results.

Health Services is located at the corner of State University Drive and Merriam Way. For more information or to make an appointment, call (562) 985-4771.
