Candice Woodward, a broadcast journalism major, transferred to Cal State Long Beach last semester from Orange Coast College. However, not all of her units transferred with her, according to Woodward.

The Academic Advising Center works with more than 36,000 students each year. To help them solve similar problems, it has one-on-one meetings with counselors and students for counseling on plans for their academic future, according to Marilee Samuelson, the director of Academic Advising.

"When I went in to make an appointment the people were very helpful in assisting me with what to do," Woodward said. "I just need someone to look at my transcripts and tell me what it is I need to do to graduate."

The Center offers workshops for students to attend and classes that student may enroll in to help better their academic education, according to Samuelson said. The Center helps all types of students with their academic plans. It assists all CSULB students.

The Center helps with academic plans and how to go about receiving a degree, transferring classes and changing majors Samuelson said.

"The Academic Advising Center received the highest rating of all services on campus in the Blue Ribbon Commission Report," Samuelson said. The commission report was developed by President Robert C. Maxson for a rating system of the campus services.

Samuelson has worked on developing the program to its highest potential. She works with the employees there to insure a friendly environment.

"We want to be known as the most student-friendly office on campus," Samuelson said.

The appointments fill up quickly so students should get in and make appointments the Monday prior to the week of their choice, Samuelson said. The office is located in the east wing of the campus library in Room 125 and can be reached at (562) 985-4837.
