Polo team 11th

The Long Beach State women's water polo team ended the season on a good note with a win over UC San Diego at the Collegiate Nationals at Hickey Pool.

The 6-4 victory over the Aggies placed the 49ers in 11th place nationally. The 49ers (16-22) got off to a fast start against the Aggies (12-17) by scoring three goals in the first quarter. But UCSD player Kathryn Ozaki scored back-to-back goals in the third quarter to give UCSD a 4-3 lead.

Elizabeth Garcia then showed why she led the team in scoring all season long by answering with two goals later in the period giving the 49ers the lead.

Goalie Amanda Wrightman cemented the win for The Beach with eight saves.

On Saturday, The Beach suffered a heartbreaking 9-8 loss to Umass.

Friday, the 49ers were on the winning end by pulling out a 9-8 victory over Princeton. The win came after they were lit up by San Diego State 13-9.

USC (30-2) was crowned National Champion after defeating Stanford (25-6) 7-6 in five overtimes.
