I was about to write a letter expressing my indignation at the stereotypical view of women in Tuesday's opinion article, "Bigger women back," when I realized the editorial unfortunately reflects opinions actually held by many females.
Rather than focusing on issues related to physical or mental health, the editorial merely told women they should be happy with their weight because men will still find them attractive.
What kind of reason is this to adopt a healthy self image? A self-image comes from one's self, not from other people. To be unhappy or happy with the way you look because other people find you unattractive or attractive is ridiculous.
Besides, there are far more important issues that should contribute to your sense of self worth. Do you think you are healthy? Active? Intelligent? Talented? These concerns are far more important than whether or not the two people behind you think you could stand to lose or gain a few pounds.I say that anyone who bases self image solely on what others say deserves exactly how he or she feels.
