The Long Beach State track and field team burned up the track with great performances last Sunday at the UC Irvine Invitational. Both the men's and women's team walked away with great results as the team prepares for the National Championships on June 2-5 in Boise, Idaho.

On the women's side, freshman Amaris Buchanan produced outstanding results in the 200-meters and the 400, as she finished second in both events. Buchanan recorded a time of 23.92 seconds in the 200 and 55.54 in the 400.

After a couple strong throws in the javelin event, Marion Reneau finished in second with a throw measuring 132 feet 6 inches.

On the men's side, Lewis Young came in third with a time of 21.16 after a strong performance in the 200-meter dash. Kashus Perona also finished tenth with 21.60. Young also performed well in the 400-meters with a second place finish of 46.75, and Perona finished fourth in 47.69.

Borya Celentano also finished strong in the pole vault by finishing second with a mark of 18 feet, 1.75 inches.

Celentano will be competing in the nationals, with other top 49er athletes.

The Beach will host its next event on campus for the Southern California Striders meet Saturday at 10 a.m.
