The Long Beach State track and field team traveled to San Diego last weekend for the Cal-Nevada State Championships and walked away with outstanding results. The men's and the women's team were dominate in all its events.
The men's 100-meter dash featured a strong field, but 49er freshman Chandler White finished strong in third with 10.77 seconds.
Forty-Niner senior Lewis Young dominated the men's 400-meters, finishing first with 46.02, a full two seconds in front of his teammate, Tyrone Pearson.
Kashus Perona, who finished first in the third heat with a time of 47.38, gave another strong performance.
In the men's 110-meter hurdles sophomore Wil Moore finished second with 14.24 - four seconds behind Tony Galaviz of Sacramento. Moore also finished first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.44. Earl Smith finished second in the third heat with 53.60.
In the first heat of the 4x100-meter relay, the men's team finished a strong second with a time of 40.80, seconds behind Fresno State's team. In the second heat, The Beach took first with a time of 3 minutes, 13.03.
Last year's NCAA pole vault champion Borya Celentano, finished third in the event with 17 feet and 4.5 inches.
The women also prevailed against tough competition in the 100-meter dash. Amaris Buchanan finished first in the 200-meter dash with 23.69.
In the 5,000-meters, Monica MacManus finished fifth with 17:44.06 and teammate Bree Frigo finished 12th with 18:19.89. Marion Reneau gave another strong performance in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing fifth with 14.92. Freshman Kisha Smith finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with 64.34.
The Beach will compete this Saturday in Irvine at the UCI Invitational.
