Sigma Chi Fraternity's executive committee voted on June 25 to suspend its Cal State Long Beach chapter for violating probation, a press release reported.
This suspension will last a minimum of four to five years, said Kim Padulo, director of Student Life and Development for Greek affairs and leadership.
The final incident leading to the suspension occurred when the chapter did not notify Sigma Chi international headquarters about an initiation ceremony of new members, said Mark Anderson, president of Sigma Chi Corp. The chapter did not inform headquarters of the time and place of the ceremony and failed to invite a staff member from international headquarters.
Before this incident, the chapter was suspended for 45 days for violating university and Sigma Chi policies against hazing, a press release reported.
"[Being on probation] they [fraternity members] should have handled themselves better," said Mark Anderson, president of Sigma Chi Corp. "Our programs are very strict in this sense."
