In today's competitive job market, an internship can give a student the edge one needs to secure that ultimate job after graduation.
Students who missed out on a summer internship, but need to beef-up their resumes before graduation, can apply for a fall internship at Cal State Long Beach's Career Development Center.
"Jobs are very competitive for students after graduation," Nin said. "People from the inside have a better chance of getting the job than someone on the outside."
The center works with student by placing him or her in an internship that relates to one's future career goals, Nin said. Workshops, career counseling and mock interviews are available to prepare students for the interviewing process.
Students are also required to enroll in a three unit class in the fall to supplement the learning experience, Nin said.
There are internships available for all majors, Nin said. Some majors might have a harder time than others finding paid internships, but volunteer positions are also available.
"Students get real good experience in volunteer positions and it looks just as good on an resume," Nin said.
The center provides an automated jobline for students to review current internship positions.
