For only the second time in its 24 year history, the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach will re-configure the race circuit. The change in the circuit was necessary because of the newly opened Aquarium of the Pacific.
The reconfiguration will extend the length of the circuit by about 1/8 of a mile. The actual site of the change occurs at turn one.
"The change will give more viewing opportunities to spectators and grandstands will be added in good viewing areas," public relations specialist Jennifer Gateano said.
The city of Long Beach and the Grand Prix Association have a contract that guarantees that the race will be held in Long Beach through the year 2010.
