Rosa Stokes, assistant coach for Long Beach States women's basketball team, has been promoted to associate head coach. The announcement was made on Wednesday by head coach Dallas Boychuk.
"I felt Rosa has worked very hard for this program and has been invaluable to me the last two years," Boychuk said. "I felt she was very deserving of this new title and responsibilities.
Stoke's duties in her new capacity as associate head coach will enable her to gain valuable experience as a head coach. "My goal is to become a head coach for a Division I school and this position will give me the experience I need to accomplish my goal," Stokes said.
Stokes, a native of Alexandria, Tenn., was raised by her grandmother to whom she attributes all of her success. "Her strength and wisdom helped me to achieve the things that I have achieved," she said.
Stokes attended Cumberland University in Tennessee, where she received her bachelor's in education. She was a member of the basketball team where she played forward. Stokes scored over 1000 points throughout her collegiate career and remains one of the top five rebounders in the school's history.
