E-mail sent from Virginia

Investigators from Cal State Long Beach Network Services have determined the e-mail allegedly sent to the Daily Forty-Niner by Robert Garcia was a forgery.

The e-mail letter was printed May 13 under the headline "My Side of the Story."

Matt Black of Network Services said the e-mail was sent from George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.

There was no indication Garcia's account at CSULB was tampered with, Black said.

Garcia said he does not know anybody in Fairfax.

Garcia said he believes the letter was sent in retaliation for the appointment of Leo Pedraza as the Union's editor in chief.

"[The letter] was just another attack," said Garcia, who was likened to Adolf Hitler in the Union's satire page, the Grunion.

"I think it's scary that people have to go through illegal means to voice their opinion," he said. "They went about it the wrong way.
