Placing Blame

Another wave of insanity is sweeping Los Angeles. The children of one of the slain gunmen in the infamous North Hollywood shoot-out last year are suing the city.

One of the gunmen, Emil Matasareanu, was shot by police and was erroneously declared dead by one of the officers at the scene.

Fire Department rescuers did not check to see if the analysis was accurate, so Matasareanu did not receive the medical attention that might have saved his life.

In the heat of the moment, mistakes on the part of the Los Angeles Police Department may have been made. However, the real tragedy occurred when a heavily armed Matasareanu and his machine gun-toting pal turned the area into a veritable war zone.

How is it that Matasareanu's children are entitled to financial compensation? If they are so closely associated to their father then why don't they pay for all the damages that were inflicted on the families of the victims, the LAPD and the North Hollywood community as a result of the shoot-out?

If the Matasareanu children would like compensation then why don't they start looking for the approximately $2 million that their father had stolen, and has yet to be found.

Do life insurance companies pay out when the policy holder kills himself or herself? When the gunmen decided to break the law they knew there were going to be consequences.

What if one's home is broken into? Should the resident be sued if the burglar gets injured while carrying out the crime? There comes a time when people have to start taking responsibility for their actions.

If Matasareanu sired two young children, he should have gotten a job to provide for them. Instead, he decided to go on a bank-robbing spree with a small arsenal.

He decided to take what he thought was the easiest route. He wanted something for nothing. Instead of working hard and earning a deserved living, he took what did not belong to him. Now, his children are attempting to do the same.

If they want to get ahead in life, they should take responsibility for their own successes and failures, unlike their father.
